TAMIR Film Festival
Local students created a stir by showcasing self-composed film at a college festival

“It all started as fun but when they got serious they just put in their days and nights behind making their dream come true and today they stand with pride after having conceptualised their dream. This talk is about the group of students from the Arvindbhai Patel Institute of Environmental Design who made their dreams come true after releasing the movie made by them at the recently held “Tamir”, the annual fest of the college. The movie titled “Bhuvan kaun hai..?” had created ripples in the college last year itself when the brains behind the movie declared to their college mates about their plans by releasing the music of the movie. Since then the students had been eagerly waiting to see this creativity of their friends. Last year when the music was released nearly 150 copies of it were sold out. When the movie was screened in the annual fest the auditorium was fully packed with all students glued on to their seats to watch it.

About the movie
The movie is about three students Amar, Rajesh and Vicky (lead roles of the movie) who are sent on a secret project by Prof. Khurana. Prof. Khurana has selected these three students because he finds them as the most suitable amongst others for the project. Khurana is a person who believes in not restricting to the bookish knowledge but also to conceptualise the knowledge. Initially the project is not revealed. All the three students set out for the project and after wandering lot reaches a village where they decide to halt and make it the place for the project. As in other movies, even this movie also has a villain. The negative character “Badal” is also from the same village where the three students have reached. The villagers are always being tortured by Badal. This evokes a spirit of revenge in all the three students and they decide to help the villagers and co-relate their project and the fight against Badal. The full movie creates hype about “Bhuvan” and at the end of the movie the suspense is revealed that “BHU 1” is actually a missile which was prepared by the three engineering students and this was the project they were assigned. They then use this missile to destroy the villain and his followers.
As the movie was made by the students and not by any professional one can find the lack of matured imaginations in the movie but the effort put in to make the movie is quite commendable. The makers of the movie have tried to give a touch of the Bollywood movies with some great graphics being used in the end of the movie. The movie also has two songs in it, some fight sequences and also some comic incidents.

Making of the movie
This one hour movie written, edited and directed by Maulik Chavda began to be shot last year. The movie involves nearly 10 characters. The concept of making the movie came to the minds of these students nearly one and half year ago when they all went on a visit to Gondal and was playing with the handy cam. Suddenly an idea struck their minds, why not make a movie. So they started working on a story, composed music for it and decided the sequence of the movie. Initially all just took the full concept in fun but as time passed they kept getting more and more serious about it. The director got a lyricist, an action director (a trained person in martial arts), music director, play back singer, cinematographer all from within the college itself. It could be said as a coming together of all various skilled persons of the college. Out of the various locations selected for the shooting, Verakhadi was the main place. The other locations are areas nearby S.K. Cinema and some areas in G.I.D.C. It took nearly one year to complete the movie. “We used to be engaged in shooting for nearly 5 to 6 hours and when we would sit down to edit that, it would cut short to merely 4-5 min shoot. It was then that we all understood the pains the movie makers of Bollywood and Hollywood face while making a three hour long movie.” Says Chavda.

Director’s cut
The full crew of the movie was very happy with the response they got from the audience after they watched the movie. Ask the crew what was the most difficult part of the movie and Nayan Barot (Badal – the negative character) shoots back the answer, “Remembering the script was the most complex part for me while acting in the movie. I also learnt how difficult it is to face the camera.” Speaking about the technical troubles the director adds, “As we did not have all those artificial lightings we had to fully depend on the natural lights. Many a times it so happened that just because of improper light we had to cancel the shoots.” Commenting on the lighter side Viral says, “My role is just for few seconds but for that I had to stand on a rock top for two days.” Even after having got all appreciation for having made a movie, the Director only repents for one thing still, and that is nothing else but the lack of a woman in the movie. “The movie lacks romance. I could have taken even that aspect as a part of my movie, but I am still happy because the audience is not complaining!” Explaining about their future plans for the movie Sagar Kagathara says, “Now our first aim is to take censor board certificate for the movie and get it copyright so that no one misuses our authentic work.” Well the chaps seem to be very serious with the movie so let’s wait and watch who knows someone from them might be the next ace movie personality in Bollywood.”
